Help Shape the Future of Innovation in Simcoe County
The Sandbox Centre, Barrie’s newest Regional Innovation Centre, is now accepting applications for its Board of Directors.
We’re looking for leaders whose skills, experience, and passion align with our mission to support innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth across Central Ontario. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our region’s innovation ecosystem at a pivotal moment in Sandbox’s evolution as a provincially funded Regional Innovation Centre.
Board Members Will:
- Attend five (5) board meetings annually
- Participate in a board orientation session, which will include an in depth discussion regarding what the RIC program is and its mandates.
- Attend at least two (2) Sandbox events/activations per year
- Optional support one (1) corporate committee as needed or appropriate – or alternatively, attend at least two (2) committee meetings per year if they do not have capacity to chair or contribute regularly, especially if the committee aligns with their expertise
While board members are not required to chair a committee, this option is available for those seeking additional involvement or for those not selected for a board seat but who still wish to contribute meaningfully.
Roles & Responsibilities Include:
- Setting and guiding strategic direction
- Supporting policy development and governance best practices
- Ensuring compliance with agreements and maintaining fiscal oversight
- Evaluating the impact of Sandbox Centre programs and services
- Contributing to the oversight and deployment of strategy
Who We’re Looking For:
We strongly encourage individuals from traditionally underrepresented communities to apply. Ideal candidates will:
- Be founders or professionals in sectors such as medtech, cleantech, digital media, mobility, IT, innovation, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, or agtech
- Have experience in corporate governance, HR, finance, legal, IP, or executive leadership roles
- Be actively engaged in the regional innovation
