Industry: Peer Support & Resiliency Training
Steve is a retired police officer who spent his entire career with York Regional Police. He skimmed the cream off of his policing career and brought it with him into retirement in the form of running his own business. Steve is the owner and lead trainer at his company, CounterStress Solutions. He works across sectors and the country, providing learning opportunities to people who are engaged in helping their peers manage stressful situations.
Outside of work Steve loves to paddle-board, bike, and lounge by the pool in the summer. When winter roles in, he loves skiing and snowboarding. All year he listens to audiobooks and podcasts for both knowledge and entertainment.

What is your business goal?
“My business goal is to help people improve their skills at helping others. This includes Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Suicide Intervention training, resiliency training, and general peer support training. What sets my business apart is 32 years of police experience along with 27 years of peer support and CISM work. I also have a group of other full-time first responders who I work with. Collectively I believe we offer the best combination of experience and skill in our field in all of Canada.”
Can you share any exciting projects or initiatives your business is currently working on?
“I have two very exciting projects underway but both are currently subject of non-disclosure agreements until such time as we are ready to launch formally. So, sadly…no.”
What’s Your Favourite Thing About the Sandbox?

It is one thing that I miss about my work as a police officer and the Sandbox is doing a great job of filling that void. By the way, there are lots of other things I like about being a Sandbox member, but you asked for only one…”
If you see me at the Sandbox, ask me about…
“The unique ships and the sunset in Powell River, BC.”
